Hi friends,
Its been long since i shared my fishing adventures with all of you. But I have a problem at hand. I was at a place near lohegad where i have a house and a pond nearby where there are plenty fish to take the bait. Anyone gets fish. But here was a moster the locals call as Khavllya. I was getting bites but not khavllya. So i got my cast net out and started casting. By lord I tell you truth, I got him the khavllya, a 2 foot long and about 1 foot in width weighing i guess 3kgs. But in all the excitement & rush to get him out he slipped out. :(

I kept casting but nogo. Started using spinners, different bait but he remained illusive. I have given that place 6 tries but got only Tilapis and some not so good fish which look like piranhas. But NO KHAVLLYA.

Hence i am taking this opportunity to call all the fellow anglers who wish to join in to catch khavllya. I will be heading to Malavali, lonavala on Thursday and will be staying there for a week. So all of you who wish to make it a weekend to remember get in touch with me. Ali bhai I have found the Promise Land   Come along if you have time.

Any suggestions on anything always welcome.

2 feet long X 1foot wide sounds like a turtle swimming sideways.

very curious to know what fish this is.

Must be that same turtle who came out of its shell and was dragging the shell to and fro :)

no not a mahseer.. khavllya or khavli/khouvli is nothing but big carp. thats the marathi name. paangat = humpbacked mahseer, khadshi also is mahseer. all marathi names here.

The Villagers in Maharashtra call all carps as "Khavllya" or "Khavli". Therefore, unless you take a photograph of a Fish, one may not be able to zero in on the exact fish that haunts you in your Pond.

In your excitement, you have mentioned the dimensions of this fish as 2 feet long and 1 foot wide, I suppose.

Regards,

Arun
