Hi There,

I have never been to Daman, my Grand-ma is from there. However, I do not know what Hoze means by bad water quality, is it chemical polution or if the water was just dirty with silt/soil/mud...plastic bags and thrash.

I would assume he means colour of the water was bad so it would be silt in the water and if this is the case, then it could be just the time of the year where the currents are strong or the rain water tainting the seawater. If this is the case then you could be lucky if the timing was right.

Bobby

when i was on the beach side there was lots and lots of thrash.........
you will find plastic bags, bottles, and what not........
sewage was directly dumped into the sea.....

when i went to daman, it was mansoon season, 26th july 2005 to be precise
and it was raining heavily and eveything was flooded so this could be other reason......

the water in daman is really bad because all the industries nearby dump thier waste in the sea. just recently there were newspaper reports of thousands of dead boi (mullet) washed ashore. plus daman being near the gulf of cambay, the water is always turbid.

cheers,
aamir.

From what I know, daman & around is a good place for ravas. Never fished that side but I have heard that Gujarat (mainly north) offers serious fishing.

Tarapur, valsad, anand, surat, ankaleshwar, baroda .. this belt is one of the most polluting belt in India.. so lot of untreated chemical pollutants are released in the sea.
