Hi Guys,

I, Ali, BabluBhai & Allan went to one of my favorite fishing spot in Konkan.

We did some trolling, surf fishing with bait, light tackle spinning and Fly fishing (Allan).

Ali had a great time spinning with light tackle for MJ’s and Allan & Bablu bhai landed their first inshore saltwater fish in trolling.

Allan also landed a nice stingray.

For me, same story of 2010.. hook a barra and lose it  . However, I landed some small MJ’s and good size Blubberlip snappers on bait.

The trip was short & sweet, but we are already planning the next one.

Bablu Bhai has made a youtube video that we would like to share with everyone on IA.

Regards,

Santosh

Oh man what a nice trip it was.. Short but sweet..

The beach fishing action was really explosive and the ray fight Allan had was something to remember.

The fight santosh had was...

It was a sort of Trolling baptism for Babloo and I am sure was not the last one.

Some good fishes, some nice fights, what more one can ask for.

As santosh said, we are busy planning our next trip.. :P

Regards,

Ali. :D

Hi Guys,

The ray looks like a Himantura uarnak commonly known as Long Tail Ray or Honey Comb whip tail ray and Leopard Ray.

Eagle Rays have longer wings and the head is more pronounced, protuding out or the rest of the body.

The ray was either a himantura uarnak (honeycomb stingray) as Bobby mentioned or himantura undulata (leopard whipray). I suspect the latter as the spots are solid. He gave one heck of a fight and caused us a bit of concern returning him to the ocean as he had exhausted himself (and the angler) in the process. After 15 minutes or so he was recovered enough to swim back out. He and his brothers are still out there - happy hunting guys!

Ali and I had a standing challenge going on what the hardest fighting fish was (pound for pound). I reckoned a Mekong Catfish and Ali reckoned a stingray - on the performance of this fellow I'd have to admit that Ali called that one right. Any other nominations?

I second that with Ali. The oddly 20 ponder had my spines cracking. The thing is they give a constant pull on the drag unlike the barracudas or the Spanish mackerel. I was lucky enough to be at a high point on the rocks to get a full view of the maneuvers performed by that ray. But they are amazing creatures and Mr. Allan yes even I noticed that after a long fight they take a pretty long time to recover. The one I landed, I did not even bring it out of the water as the line snapped and the poor creature was washed ashore into the rocks and it could not move. SO I did not bother to pull him out as I had intentions to release it. But finally looking at the state of the ray I decided to gaff else it would have died anyways as the tide water was going in. We managed to gaff it in the tail. Hope it recovers from that wound.

I am waiting for the day when we will hook a real biggi. Whatever experience I have, to me ray is best fighting fish.

Regards,

Ali.
