Hello Guys,

This is my first post in IA forum. I met Bops when I was searching for gear in Blore, he introduced me to IA.com.

Recently I visited Havelock and had a gala time fishing, it was so much fun and to add to the fun was the wonderful host Qutub ;).

The scenic beauty of Hacelock, quiet sea, crystal clear view of water just adds to the overall fishing experience.

This one made my day 47lb GT :D

This one was our lucky catch, the first one.. got this while trolling

I definitely want to go back to this fishing heaven again next year...

the last fish (the long one befoe the groupers photo )seems to be SURMAI dont know the sintific name. quit a tasty fish  .when i was posted at ratnagiri doing "Joint Sea Patrolling" our fishing trawler crew members used to suspend a line while trolling, with spoon attached to it and always lucky to catch big surmai's.

Indeed this is Surmai or King Mackerel and yes we caught it on a spoon while trolling, we caught this one right when the boys on the boat started to release the spoon and we were not very far from the jetty.
Yups it is a nice and tasty fish with less bones ;)

Thanks Rajat for the scintific name.
yes indeed a very firm and tasty one . Most sought after the " Pomfrit" in the sea food lovers choice . Excellent with Malvani/govanies style Tikhne(Red curry) or simply fry with hint of Kokum or tamirind with ginger garlic paste. lip smaking Yummy  ( i can send the recipe as told by one of my goan friend for red curry goan style) :P

Yes i do agree with you and share the sentiments .we should be talking about releasing the fish and not tossing on pan, this should be strictly followed for the endangered spicies. (At Ratnagari/Jaigadh/vijaydurg during my posting as customs officer while checkings of the boats i had realesed many turtles catched by the fishing trawlers) At least we anglers should have deep in heart this sentiment. We anglers catch very small amount of fish as compared to the commercial trawlers. Have you seen the machanised trawlers fishing with dense nets having very small openings which do not allow even small baby fishes to escape....very sad. :( There should be some control/ regulation which has to be strictly enforced. However these commercial trawlers sends these teasty fishes to the market and ultimately on your table. Still requires the recipe for goan fish curry? Cheer up !

I have always know Surmai = Seer fish

Not sure if kingfish is also Seer ?? I know that you get different types of Seer, but not sure if you get different types of kingfish (similar fish are kingfish, spanish mackrel, wahoo, couda).

Can anyone throw some light on this.

Rajat, STOP !!! catch some fish first. Will buzz you when I'm down in the next couple of weeks.

regards,
Keyur

Indeed!! I got to know by the local people that surfing was a bigtime fun pre-tsunami, but tsunami destroyed those locations.
Do people still surf in Andamans?where?
It will be fun to try it next year ;)

It was pre-Tsunami i was talking about and i have been to this place several times during the Windsurf expeditions from Madras to Andaman. Most of the important place are underwater eg Indira Point. Now i dont know, what is the situation. I will ask my friends and let you know.
