Hi All,
Went with one of my close friend and his family on a fishing trip to Jaigad. My friend is a beginner and has never done saltwater fishing. He strongly insisted me to accompany him so I went along. The climate was very good and the breeze was cool in the mornings and late evenings. I was bit skeptical about the possibility of hooking good fish at Jaigad since Jindal is in process of constructing a huge plant and a jetty at Jaigad. A lot of work is completed and lot more to be done. Luckily to my surprise we hooked some good size mangrove jacks and groupers. I have posted the pictures below.
Day one.
Started trolling at 9.30 am. We trolled for almost one and a half hour but not a single hit. The water was crystal clear so tried using natural colour lures but all in vain. Tried shallow divers, deep divers and all other divers but not a single strike. Also tried popping for sometime hoping to hit a trevally. The atmosphere was heating up so finally decided to try a different place. Reached the spot in half an hour and started trolling again. To my biggest surprise got a huge strike on a deep diver lure. The reel started screaming. The treacherous hit immediately revealed that it was a big mangrove jack. Landed the fish after 15 min. After that we decided to leave since it was getting hotter in the afternoon. The fished weighed 15 pounds.
Day two.
Started trolling at the same time. Decided not to waste time and directly head to the same spot. Lures were out in water and in the next 20 minutes got the first strike. The fish directly went in the rocks. Luckily I was using a longer leader wire so it did not cut the line. I tried yanking the fish, pulling the line with pressure, circling round the rock and everthing else to make the fish come out of the rocks but everything failed. Finally after wasting half an hour I decided to break the line and I pulled the line with full pressure and luckily the fish came out. I didnt give him a second chance and pulled him out. It was a grouper or rock cod what u say. Approx 9 pounds. Again the lures were in water. I told the boatman to turn the boat and try the same spot and got a second huge strike. Treacherous strike revealed a mangrove jack. The fish was in the boat after 15 to 20 min. Approx weight was 16 pounds. Again in no time lures were in water and another strike. This time the fish struck my friends lure and he was really in bad shape. He was struggling to lift the rod up. I guided him to fight the fish since he was new to this type of fishing. Landed the fish after 20 minutes. It was a grouper or rock cod whatever u say. It weighed approx 22 pounds. Got one more strike later and pulled out a small red snapper. We were very happy with the game we got and decided to stop fishing and head back since we had enough for the table.
