Durg April 2009

My daughter appeared for her SSC this year and had been studying non stop with school tuitions and the whole works for over 14 months .

I had decided that once her exams were over I would take the family for a holiday wherever my daughter wanted ,so when I asked her where she wished to go she said “Durg , I haven’t been there in over 5 years and I would like to go once again “

So Plans were made and after a halt for a couple of days at my friends bungalow at Mahabaleshwar , we found our selves on our way to Durg

We had a fantastic time landing a lot of fish , eating a lot of fish , we went crabbing in the mangroves , I fished with the girls and the wife and everyone caught fish including my daughters friend , daughter , the wife , myself and including Wayne – my family friend .

The highlight of this trip was that we hooked a large number of Barramundi and had them on from anything like 15 seconds to 5 minutes before they either threw the hooks or the hooked slipped off with once the hook straightening

Brief details of Angler , fish hooked , landed , released and lost session wise

Day one : After noon session

Angler Fred : 3 Grouper – 7 – 12 pounds ,…. Released 2 , kept one for the pot and one GT popping 9 lbs , Wayne : One MJ 7 lbs – kept for the Barbeque that night

Total fish landed : 5

Day Two : Morning session , Fred Hooked 1 Barracuda 14 lbs – landed , Hooked 5 Barramundi , landed 1 , 16 lbs , 3 grouper 9 – 12 lbs .. all released , Wayne Hooked 6 Barramundi : landed 2 . 8 lbs and 12 lbs , :

Total fish landed : 7

Day Two evening session – Girls on Boat with rods

Daughter Abigail Hooked and landed 3 , 1 barramundi 15 lbs, 1 MJ 6 lbs , I Grouper 7 lbs

Wife Yvette : Hooked 3 MJ’s 5-7 lbs --- all landed

Daughters Friend : 2 MJ . both landed

Total fish landed : 8

Screaming on hookups and fish landed was to be seen and heard to be believed

Day 3 : Morning session :

Changed hooks on small lures to 3X . idea was to target only Barramundi

Fred hookups 7 , lost 6 landed one 11 lbs
Wayne hookups 9 lost 7 landed 2 , one 7 lbs and one 16 lbs

Total fish landed : 3

After loosing a few fish we analyzed and we realized that most of the barra were all small sized and the 3X hooks were not penetrating so we changed the hook to the original thinner gauge and smaller size on the Halco Tilsan Big Barra lures and had immediate success The 3 barra landed were all after we changed the hooks

Afternoon was spent crabbing with the 2 girls and we caught around 3 dozen large sized mud crabs in one hour .

Evening was spent once again with the ladies fishing and we landed 2 grouper and a couple of small MJ’s and 5 juvenile Barracuda with Tiger like stripes that were released

Total fish landed : 9

The girls needless to say were still screaming even when they struck fish and rock alike but they were having fun and that was all that mattered

The evening menu was Crab curry and Crab masala – dry …

Day 4

Morning session :

Fred : 1 hook up and landed barramundi of 14 lbs …and 3 groupers between 9- 12 lbs once again, otherwise was a totally dead morning

Total Fish landed : 4

Back to the lodge and lunch and departed for Mumbai

Lost count of the total fish hook ups and fish released

Total fish landed was 35

Did not take many photographs of the fishing as the family was having a great time and I was playing host , lure changer , hook remover , gaffer , net man and boatman all in one so just have some pics of the fish that was remaining after we had "eaten our fill " and were getting packed in the ice box prior to our way back home

Hey,

This is too rude to post this pictures when we are in office sitting after eating some grass and fruits.

Yummy Yummy. Mouth watering buddy.

Is there any fish still out in DURG?

Very good report, awesome pictures and delicious food. I can smell from my computer screen.

The magic of Vijaydurg is such that it keeps you spell bound and creates a longing which pushes you to go there again and again. :-)

Very nice trip Fredd. Enjoying the thing you love most with your family is beyond description.

Congratulation to your daughter and Mrs. Fredd. :-)

Regards,

Ali.

Thank you very much FRED for eliciting my hungry towards crab. This made me catch a 1.3kg crab in fishing hook.

Sunday morning i was trying all my plugs, popper and rubber jigs. Nothing worked out.

Little frustrated and on the other side my dear SUN started frying me. So planned to wrap up for the day. BUt little hope made me use sardin for bait fishing. 20 mins passed with no big hits.

There was a little disturbance in my line and nothing after that. I thought of changing the bait and started retrieving. But it was not easy like usual,I thought it got some net or plastic bags. But there is some pull. So i did very slow retrieve and saw 2 crabs hugging and catching my line.

I dont know what exactly should do to take out both the crab. Somehow landed it, but missed the bigger one which was hugging the other crab. My hook is tightly hooked to the smaller one in the stomach part.

Carefully taken and tied with a rope.

Here are some of the pics of crab and my lunch menu.
