I will be trying my luck at the Emerald lake, 30 Kms from OOty. I have heard the water is clear and there are Trouts :o

Anybody ever fished there before... Some suggestions about the lures would also help.

All the best, keep an eye out for the forest guards lest they throw you in the water :-)

Best lure would be mepps size 0 and 1 on four pound line.

Thanks Bops.

Actually this is a private property just outside the reserved forest area. Guards should not have any say... :D

Great Saiki. Beliaghata in the opening days would be fantastic. Ideal for Rohus from seat 64-68. Katlas would be from 45-55 I feel.

Try Simlagarh, towards the pump house side, in this monsoon. am planning to come to Kolkata by May end.. will try to pair up, if you are free...

Not much in Bangalore. I missed the Mahaseer season in Cauvery as I was in Nigeria for 4 months. Did some saltwater angling in the Lagoon backwaters in Lagos, Nigeria. Went to Hyderabad, attempted freshwater in Devam Cherivu. Went to Chennai, tried shore fishing in the East Coast.

Will be trying for trout in the Nilgiris by the end of this month.

I have fished Emerald & Lakkdi many years ago and was full of trout though smallish. The scenery is also just beautiful. All the best.

Cheers Rohit.

Hi,

The locale was wonderful. Some huge carps were seen, but none were adventurous enough to risk the bait. My son managed to catch a small carp which was released back...

Isn't Trout an introduced species? if so? may be its not protected? Ive heard of foresters losing a case just because the name of the protected langur was misspelled.

The water would normally be steady throughout the year. Even in the rains it does not go up. It's so because these are the backwaters of Emerald lake, which is controlled by the Emerald dam.

Eventhough trout is an introduced species, the Fisheries department over there are very worried about the Biosphere, etc. The entire Upper bhavani region is totally out of bounds for Anglers, even with permits. however, i did see a lot of local people poaching...
