It's official. It is formal. The 2009 fishing season in the North has been Flagged off. The Chief Guest was Bablubhai from Mumbai.
I picked him up on a cool Sunday morning at 6 am. he was there waiting punctually as I was a couple minutes late. After a long drive we hit the Pump House and to our pleasant surprise we found the place empty of people and full of fish.

Bablubhai worked a zero balance rig up faster than I could take notes. I set worked the bottom with a float.

The fish were eager and we immediately got a few bites. And much to my surprise I converted one. It turned out to be a nice little common carp.

I think we cheered too hard and danced to wild a jig as the fish got spooked and the bites stopped right after.

Bablubhai took the time off to explain the intricacies of the zero balance, the feeder rig and the new floating feeder rig. I listened attentively and hope to be able to put all this useful information to good use soon.

In the meantime we changed depths, rigs, baits and even took of our jackets for luck (actually it was damn hot). But no go. The fish stuck out a middle finger at us.

Bored of this I started chucking a small little softie in orange and green. And typically, when I was completely distracted a biggie hit. the reel screamed and the fish went under the big log that lives in the center of the pool. That was then end of that.

That was the last we saw of the fish. A little while later we decided to cal it a day.

Thanks Balubhai. It was truely a great experience fishing with you. I learned a lot. Here's a a lot more trips!

Yup Tathagata, you need to meet each of them only once to realise how genuine they are. As they say, you can never hide a clean heart.

Compleately agree, man. Ali is like this selfless fishing institution. Always ready to share his knowledge, unconditionally.... And Kudos to the way he has been transforming Powai.

Cheers,

If it's the same one then he must look like some Gothic body piercing freak.

Hi Ken

Can you enlighten me about the pump house and its membership? That carp looks very plump...

Cheers!

The next time we head there we'll take you along blindfolded. that's all I can disclose.

Right now it is bloody hot. Sun stroke is the only thing you are sure to come back with.

for membership at the Pump house, there are ne fees (yet).. all that a budding angler needs to do is go through an initiation ceremony that involves some cement, blues, bees, and an omelette toast with pumpkin sauce...
Once you have gone thru this successfully, my friend, then you will be a proud member of PHG

And dont forget the Turtle....

Back from Oz but no fishing as the weather was a tad bad. With winds at 35 knots it was too choppy to head out to the reefs... so some long beer sessions looking out at the water wistfully translated into 'I'll be back when the sea is like a mirror'

Are you waiting for the rains and fish breeding season to end before heading out to the Pump House??? Pls update..

Cheers!
