The return to Ratnagiri

It was long overdue. Both Santo and I decided to take our better halves to a weekend trip together the idea was to have some fun. The question was where? so after some debate it was decided that we would head towards our favorite destination on Malwan coast the Ratnagiri district.

We packed up and left last week before Christmas on Friday at 5am all four of us Santo and I with our respective partners Shefali and Geeta, who took the promise from us for it to be a fun trip and not a fishing trip, but then no angler leaves home to go to a fishing paradise without a rod . we managed to convince them that we will have all the fun and a little bit fishing too.

We were all excited and reached our destination after a smooth 7 hour drive while enjoying some quality food on the way. The first evening after a quick nap we decided to go boating (with our rods off course ) We landed with a serious glitch as some local politics has taken place since our last visit and somebody has complained against our good friends fishermen to the police. So we had to take care of that and trust it to be Santo who finally took care of it .

The first evening was then restricted to only some quality time on the jetty with beautiful evening breeze then some out standing Malwani food with some drinks

On Saturday we were joined by one of our angling buddy “Spoon angler” who had also landed up with his family and friends and we all decided to go “boating”. Initially every thing was cool and we started our account with me landing a decent size Grouper immediately followed by Santosh with the same . Then the wind picked up and although it being the ideal condition for the game we called it a day seeing the faces of the ladies with water coming on top and all. I lost a big fish who managed to get de-hooked after two solid runs while returning to the shore.

We decided to celebrate a good beginning with a party at Spoon angler place where we cooked our food on firewood and eat all the fresh fish with wetting our throats with some good booze it was nothing but pure blast

The next day keeping in mind the rough weather condition we decided to go purely for trolling and hence after much convincing and a separate car the ladies were left behind
The evening was a pure thrill in terms of game with every one catching some thing but Santo took the most of it by lading some big groupers and a big barramundi.

We again repeated the evening with some good food and ample quantity of booze since it was our last day and four of us were returning the next afternoon to Mumbai while Spoon angler was returning in the evening . He went back and caught a big grouper of size 8 Lb or so next evening so all in all we had a blast and top of that the ladies were also all smile

Here are some pics of the trip

You guys rock. Great balance between the home dept. and pure angling. keep it up and land many more fishes, greater than these.

thanks for posting guys. What are the 'politics' you talk about? Are boat owners, by law, not allowed to take people out on chartered trolls?
Looks like you guys had a great time. Good luck for the year ahead!

Hi Rajat/ Santo,

The pics were superb. Thanks for sharing.

Santo, it seems your better half can also do some serious fishing with the Daiwa reel and the Quantum rod. Did she get anything?

Cheers,
Apoo

Hi Santosh /Rajat

Great Report nice pics. You guys ROCK.

What is the drag that you normally keep while trolling and which line did you use.

Keep up the good work.

Happy New Year in advance.

Cheers

Almost everyone in the village knows for what we come for and I have been going there for a long time now. I have no clue why some idiot had problem with us this time. Maybe because he had some issues with my friends there.

Nothing this time Appo, the water was too clear. There were very small GT’s feeding in the evening but they took nothing.
She has already caught some fish including a nice MJ in Tarkarli.

Rajesh, I was using 50 lb fireline and 40 lb fluoro leader.

I started fishing with heavy drag and always believed in yanking the fish, but now I keep the drag fairly loose and allow the fish take the first run.

Hey Scott, Fishing was not very explosive since the water was clear.
We were there two weeks before this trip and that’s when I got my PB barra.
