Hi friends,

Went for a fishing trip with Rajat to a place close to Ratnagiri. It was fantastic (as always when you go out with Rajat  ).

1st session on Saturday morning produced just one small grouper. The water was very clear (light green) and for close to three hours we were without one single hit. It was frustrating as nothing worked. We tried every thing in the tackle box from dull natural colours to the bright ones without any luck.

On our way back I decided to remove the wire leader and attach the lure directly to the main line as possibly the fish were able to see the leader in clear water. Within minutes after removing the leader I got a hit.

In the afternoon while I & Rajat were drowning our sorrow with beer, I decided that to change my wire leader with 40 Lb Flurocarbon.

In the evening we had a blast, the fluorocarbon surely made a big difference. I caught 5 fish including my PB Barra :D (3 groupers, 1 reef cod & one barra, lost one) & Rajat caught 2 fish (1 grouper & one barracuda) but he lost a big grouper as it went back in the hole.

The last session on Sunday morning produced 3 hits. 2 groupers with I and Rajat bagging one each. And I lost one (has to be a GT) that cut me on some rock after it took out close to 70- 80 yards of line in the first run.

From now on, no wire leaders for me. You might lose the occasional fish that will cut you on some rocks, but the hit probability is much higher with Fluorocarbon.

Total Fish caught:
7 Grouper
1 reef cod
1 barramundi
1 barracuda

Some pics that we would like to share…. :D

Regards,

Santosh

Nice Report, Santosh!!

Rai-Bhatgaon bridge looks enticing. I am yet to see a bridge which is as scenic as this one!

Keep the reports / snaps coming ;-)

Cheers

Hi Santosh and Rajat,

Very Nice trip. It is always heart breaking when you lost the biggies but that is also the motivation for the next trip. Looks like floro carbon leader is the way to go.

Santosh, also hertiest congratulation on your PB Barra.

Keep up the good work. [smilie=coolup.gif]

Regards,

Ali.

Nice show guys.
Santosh, congrads on your PB Barra.

After you removed the wire leader, were you using a snap to connect the lure to line.
Or did you connect it directly to the line? What knot were you using with the fluro.

Thanks,
Maruthu

Thanks Maruthu,

Yes I was using a snap to connect the lure. I used the Uni knot.

You have to get the knot absolutely correct with fluro.

Santosh

The 10-6 knot is also very good knot but can it be used to connect floro with braid?

Regards,

Ali.

Thanks Ali,

I do not prefer to connect fluro directly to braid as the braid cuts in to fluro.

Any suggestion on the best knot to avoid this problem??

Santosh
