Truly a great day in Powai
Well it was almost two months that I caught any thing decent, not even at Powai one of my most favorite places in Mumbai. The reason was not that I was not trying but it seemed a kind of total absence of luck for me not even a decent size mirgal.

This morning I got a call from one my favorite fishing partner Bablu bhai the tone and voice was as usual up beat “what are you doing Rajat Bhai”I although was finishing one of my meeting said “ I am still busy Bablu bhai whats up ?” “Let’s meet in Powai” came the usual reply. I almost said no in despair and said as much “What’s the use Bablu Bhai you know what will happen not a single fish in two months” Bablu bhai is not one of those who gives up easily “Today is going to be big day in Powai I promise” he said .

Well I decided to go with what he is said because some times he is really uncanny about these things. So I and Bablu bhai land up at Ali’s Machan.(as usual)

I did some light ground baiting and Bablu bhai decided to try a new rig. His floating feeder rig . I decided to go along with my old ground feeder rig and one rod for the goli.

The game started after two hour of waiting (Which is usual as the ground bait do take some time even longer to take effect) but the surprise was Bablu bhai’s floating feeder we suddenly saw the big float suddenly start to dance and as the feeder is free beneath it one can hardly do any thing but wait to see what happens and then with the big splash Bablu bhai has hooked his first catch of the day a decent size Rahu of about 8 Lb he landed the fish with absolute beauty of a fight .

I had almost forgotten my own float in the excitement and suddenly I saw it was not there any more, I picked up the rod but it was too late. However happy with days beginning I started all fresh again., for some time nothing happened then suddenly my float disappeared in front of me in slow motion and as I was little distracted ( in powai it usually happens that you will get the best bites when you are not looking even for a fraction of a second) I struck but no luck again. Mean while Bablu bhai decided to shift to Goli rod as we were getting the bites after a really long time in Powai and sure enough in the course of two an d half hour he landed four Miragal all in the range of 2 to 3Lb and a decent hybrid of 4 Lb. For me the score was still a big zero.

I almost gave up as it was getting dark and I missed yet another big bite and I said to Bablu bhai I am packing as there was no bite on my feeder rig too. Bablu bhai said just give it half an hour more he lit the gas light quickly “You need to catch a big one for me to carry home” he said.

I decided to give a total concentration for half an hour within ten min my float started to move in a way that of classic Rahu bite it dipped once very slowly and then again, my stomach was tight with excitement as I knew it has to be a Rahu and may be a big one. Then it happened the float started to go down and I struck wham!!! My rod bended like I have hooked a submarine the reel screeched and within second the fish was halfway in the lake.

I fought the fish for almost 20 min and landed a beauty of 16Lb Rahu my biggest Rahu so far I was in seven heaven Bablu bhai who helped me with landing net to land the fish vigorously shook my hand and we hugged. He said “I told you today you have to land a big one for me and see you did it “ I just was too happy for any words

All in all it was a fantastic day for us in Powai

Total Catch of the day
Two mirgal 2 Lb each (Released)
Two Mirgal 3 Lb each(Released)
One hybrid 4 Lb
One Rahu 8 Lb
One Rahu 16 Lb

Some pics of the Rahu and Hybrid the Mirgal were released earlier in the day for the shortage of space in the keeping net (No jokes) and the camera was in my car.

Congratulation Rajat and babloo. :D

Rajat you know Babloo is an angler par excelence and if he says something one must listen it. :-)

When the conditions are right, floating feeder is very effective.

Ali.

Dear shaphan
The floating feeder rig is a feeder rig supported by a huge float so that it can keep the feeder floating and you can adjust the height of where you want the feeder to be. You cast it at the place you want and let it float the feeder's weight is what hooks the fish when they feed on it. To know more about feeder rig you can visit this site

tight lines
Rajat :-)

Congrats To both of you!

Decent size fish and fantastic smile Dada!

Looking at the success rate of Dada.

Now dada has to change his punch line from

"Amateur but mad about Fishing"
to
"Mature but mad about Fishing"

Hope to see more shows. [smilie=ebil-thumbup.gif]

Rgds,
Anoop

Dear Shaphan
Sorry got busy for couple of days the tackle used was Diawa D wave rod 10to 20 Lb line strength combined with a Small Mitchel XE300 reel with 20 pound braid on it. The bait was typical Powai bread atta on a two hook rig. I was playing with Bait on ground with sliding weight and floater. Which means the bait is on the ground with a small weight to keep it in place but the weight is free so when fish sucks on the bait it does not feel the pressure of the weight and the floats shows the movement of the slightest of the bites. I struck when float was going down with a nice slow movement so i knew that the fish has taken the bait in mouth and moving. The first run was the greatest with the drag loose it went at least 80 to 100 meters almost emptying my reel.
cheers :D :D
