Though the size was small, the sense of achievement was not….I caught my first fish with a rod… :D

This Sunday towing my GF along, we headed for the Manori to get some action back in life

I chose Manori as we both are familiar with that area from our previous rock climbing trips, and went straight to the climbing area and tried to cast from the rock. After losing two hooks, :( good sense prevailed and we headed towards the beach.

On the very first cast got this small one. What fish is this btw?

This was my first catch in years and first one with a rod. The pull or tugs by this one was next to none, but enough to create the adrenaline rush that I almost forgot. After the quick picture released it.
Then after caught three of these in quick succession, all released. As I was getting fed up from the looks from her for catching finger sized fishes, I increased the bait size and landed this catfish.

As I’m not very good at handling fishes and specially fish like this with the nasty sting, I had to stun it with smack on its head and then removed the hook, which was half way down to its belly. :?

By then I have already overshoot our pre-agreed timeline, hence headed back. :( Bestowed the catfish upon a much-delighted boy ambling on the beach on the way back.

One thing is for sure, I will be back soon

Good show.
But remember - more the rocks, more the snags, more the fish.

Congrats, that is one fish that everyone in Bombay must catch when they go Fishing and is perhaps the first saltwater fish everyone does when they do. It has got so many names, like the Phantom...so let that just be. Mostly considered to be a pest fish by bait fishermen looking for Bream, Mullets etc but like Fred said they do make fine eating and one that size is worth it. I have not seen one of those fellows in India for a while now.

The scientific name is Terapon Jarbua

Congrads on your first catch and hope you get many more and bigger fish.
You can hook that catfish and live line it for the big boys, if you carry a heavier rod/reel setup.
