Guys,
The idea of organizing one Indian Angler Meet has been discussed many times but it was limited to only local level. To some extent these meets were success full in developing a channel of communication between fellow anglers and of course there where some good catches also. (Remember Jude’s monster!? ). It is very difficult for all I.A. Members to travel to one location at a time and I do not think that there is any place where so many anglers can fish together. To overcome above mentioned problem and at the same time organize one I.A. Meet, let me propose an all India angling competition where we all will fish together on a given day, following same set of predefined rules but the venues will be different. Like Mumbai gang will fish in Powai, Bangar gang in Michanbele, bong gang in Fort William, PHG in Pump house or Bhakra and so on. We will distribute certificates of participation and prizes on local level as well as all India level for categories like biggest catch, maximum number of catches, maximum weight of catches etc. Let’s appoint two I.A. Judges for each venue who will record all catches and monitor the proceedings.

We can organize two competition this year, one for freshwater and one for salt water. What say guys

Regards,

Ali.

Thats a great idea Ali,do we divide these groups in teams or mostly individual competitors also if we can can some coverage from the media that would give IA as well as our cause a shot in the arm, what we need is more keen Anglers so we can save out country from this ecological disater we heading for. I guess we need more feed back from IA crowd.Count me on the Saltwater team i think a good venue for salties would be Harihareshwar cause its accesible from both Mumbai and Pune.

We can also look at sponsoring a competition at our respective centres..
Can have a competition at FW where we can distribute certificates and honours to the top anglers..
Costing will also be not much and am sure we can put in our own contribution for the cause of the IA.

Its a brilliant idea...

Since we are scattered all across the sub continent, I'd suggest we first do it on a regional scale, where it is easy for all the people in that particular region to attend and then fine tune the formula to do it on a national scale on a lake where no one has fished before: it'll will really test everyones' watercraft that way and the local boys won't go winning all the contsts!!!

Cheers!

Wonderful plan Ali.
Lets put things on paper. May I propose:
> Fix a date. Can we have a weekend (Sat and Sun) instead of one day. That way, chances of more participants will accrue.
> Regional moderators (volunteers) who will capture details of their zone of anglers, co-ordinate their fishing activities, record catches etc...
> One influential group can be formed to talk to media and sponsors. The sponsors can be good enough to only cover a 'Prize' in cash or kind. If collections are good, we may even be able to host a zonal/state-wide/country-wide get together to distribute the prize.
> Sponsorship can be local or nation-wide, and can cover advertising for banners put up on the event day(s) and prize-distribution.
> Maybe we can even have a hard/soft copy of a Event-Souvenir types, which have have many pages for advertising. If we have this book, we can print different sections like tips/jokes/etc
My $0.02 :)

Anand, good suggestions. I suggest a basic entry fee which could cover cost of prizes, location based license fee etc. Say about Rs 100 per entry, again this depends on the venue selected.

I think a one day event will be a better bet, Sunday being ideal since it would give the organisers some time at the venue on Saturday to prepare for the next day.

I agree to haing this on a Sunday. I only suggested we make it two days, since some stretches cannot accomodate many people on the same day.
However, its a consultative event, and everyone's response is important.
Its a great idea to have a match fee. 100 INR seems very fair and worth. Matter of fact, sometimes I pause to think that more importance is attached only if money is involved :)
Ali, its your baby. Please input :)
I dont mind volunteering to take lists of Bangalore members :)

Good,
As every one is into it- lets start the proceedings by first nominating co-coordinator and venue for every zone. I propose Santosh and Freddy as co-coordinator for Mumbai, Nasik and Pune Zone. First of all we will do one salt-water competition. Fred, can we do this in Vijay Durg. How many persons can they accommodate in one time? What will be the package. Kindly work this out. Or shall we do it in Harihareshwar as suggested by Santosh. The competition will be organized in October. Request every one to kindly submit their zone team, Nominate co-coordinator and Venue.

The anglers from places where there is no salt water fishing can join the venue of their choice with co-ordination of other salt-water groups.

All Delhi (North) anglers are cordially invited to Join Mumbai group. Kindly send your entry as soon as possible.

The last date of entry into this competition is 07th sep. 08.

Regards,

Ali.

If we decide Harihareshwar, the best time would be 8th & 9th November. (weekend)

The tide & the timing look perfect for spinning from the rocks.

8th:- low: 12:49 AM IST / 1.86 m, high: 7:18 AM IST / 3.47 m, low: 2:09 PM IST / 1.53 m, high: 8:19 PM IST / 3.12 m.

Room bookings will be a concern, hence please confirm well in advance.

Before we start off, what will decide the winners in each competition? Heaviest fish caught or most number of fish caught?

Suggestions please.

For Delhi, I suggest the PH jorh :-). Max numbers caught will decide the winner

and

Prashant is the winner.

Cheers

PS: Only fish released will be counted for the winning numbers.

Thats a great turnout :)
Ali, you should be very happy :) Lets all hope and work to make this a grand event. Some thoughts...
We need a team who can get in Media and sponsors. Any takers?
Should the Bangalore/Mysore group have this event held at Cauvery waters? We have Bheemeshwari fishing camp, WASI waters, etc.
I think we can start by dividing Mera Bharat into certain regions.
We already have Mumbai (includes Delhi). Should other regions be Bangalore. Chennai. Calcutta? Please add more, to make the list final.
We can have two sets of prizes - one for biggest and one for most number caught.
We immediately need one general co-ordinator, who knows us all in this forum, and can start to make a list of participants (ali, please take this up, as this idea is your baby). These participants can be regionally divided, with one Region co-ordinator, who will collect the entry fee from his region. He will also draw lots for allocating waters to the regional participants. We can start this before making the date final.
Photographs of catches is a must and should be recorded by the regional co-ordinator (henceforth referred to as RCO). RCO to be available at the waters thru the competition on all days (if this has to be extended to two days).
No buying fish from the market :) :) :)

Ashok,
Your inputs are very valuable. As per my opening post, there will be three categories for winner;
• Biggest Catch.
• Maximum number of fishes caught.
• Maximum cumulative weight of fishes caught.

These categories will apply on regional as well as National level. I suggest two RCO as in case of some eventuality, one will be present at the time of competition. The profile of RCO will be same as you suggested.

I propose Mr. Bopanna as the national coordinator.

Your idea of media coverage and sponsorship are great but first of all, let’s come forward and declare our participation and venue on Zonal level. I request all of you to coordinate things on local level and immediately decide the venue and participants. Further details can only be finalized after the list of participants and venue is decided.

Any out of India team can also participate subject to they can muster more than six participants.

Rules for Salt water event;
• Zonal team has to fish on one place and one time.
• No trolling is allowed, participant can fish by spinning or bait casting.
• Not more than two rods are allowed for any participant.
• For bait casting, only 2 hooks are allowed.
• Any rod, hook and fish caught for bait, will not be counted.
• Any fish landed with help of other will not be counted.
• Participant has to bring all his fishing rod, tackles and lures etc.
• The decision of the RCO will be binding and final.

Every one, kindly give your inputs, so as to formalize the rule etc.

Come on guys, stop talking and take action.

Regards,

Ali..

We need more participation here.. common guys.

My suggestion on the schedule is as follow,

The group will leave from Mumbai on the 7thth Evening at 6.00 pm.
4 hr derive and we reach hwar at 10.00 pm.
Rooms on twin sharing basis for 7th & 8th Night will be booked at Hwar and (charges will be 650 to 750 INR per night / room.)
Competition will have 3 session at ganesh galli (rocks behind MTDC resort).
Timings per each session will be:
8th: 6 Am to 10.30 Am & 4.00 Pm to 6.30 Pm (no fishing from the rocks after dark)
9th : 6 Am to 11.00 Am.
Checkout from the hotel will be at 12.30 PM on the 9th.
The competition fee will be at actual, roughly 1500 INR (+- 200 ) and will include accommodation / breakfast/ lunch / dinner/ and bottled water. Any additional expenditure on the group will be equally shared. (Balance money will be refunded)
Transportation: can also hire a mini bus if we all agree.
Participants should wear proper footwear (please get a pair of Bata Dolby costing INR 190)

So far Ali, Rajat, Babloo bhai, Spoon, Fred, Tats, Mr. Arun, Neil, Vishal & myself have confirmed from Mumbai rejoin. ..the rest of gang, please confirm ASAP.

Ali only one rod should be permitted. Winner should be decided on the points given and will depend on the Type of fish, size & numbers; for example;

Barra: 6 pts
Grouper:4 pts
MJ: 2 pts.
Plus
Weight: 1pts / Lb
Numbers: 2pts.

If a barramundi of 10 lb is caught the total points earned will be 6 + 10 + 2= 18. if its two MJ of 5 Lb the total points will be 4 +10 + 4=18.

Sounds OK..?? [smilie=huh-ani.gif]

Santosh

Hi Ali

Thanks for the detailed rules, just what I was thinking too but there are some important points missing. Only catch and release entries will be accepted during the competition. Foul hooking techniques and use of live bait will not be permitted.

Santosh we could look at point systems going forward but for the first All India competition I think we should just stick to what Ali mentioned.

• Biggest Catch.
• Maximum number of fishes caught.
• Maximum cumulative weight of fishes caught.

We South Indian members will have to wait a bit for the competition since the spawning season ends only end of september and I would not like to organise a competition during spawning. Request you all to keep this in mind when scheduling your event.

Cheers
Bopanna
