It has been almost seven months that I have started to visit Powai lake for angling . I caught many fishes there in fact some variety small singhi, talapia, the mangur but never a decent size carp. I managed some undersize mirgal and khavali also.Ali kept on saying you would get a big one soon now. We did all the tricks to get one too. I tried different ground bait, some of Ali’s innovative rigs some of them were damn successful but never managed a good size fish. I had started to wonder whether this year I would manage to catch one at all.

Day before yesterday I decided to take my wife Geeta to show the lake and specially Ali’s machan it was a regular show off kinda visit but to go to Powai and not take you’re your rod along is not done so I took my favorite Javis walker along. We reached the lake and Geeta was really very impressed and happy I was too.

I decided to fish for awhile and while Geeta looking on and started to get interested with the bite on the float “bam” I got a tremendous jerk on the rod trying to set the hook on a bite and the reel screeched. I was really in seventh heaven so finally With Geeta helping me with the landing net I landed my first big carp a beauty of 7.3 pound Mirgal after a good 20 min fight here are some picture (Taken at home though as I was not carrying my camera and the phone camera got jinxed the other day in rain)

there are few, in fact Powai used to have loads of them but recently the population have seems to be rather sparse but i believe that many have been sighted even in recent time this one was really some thing though hanged around us for quite a few days even came quite close one night. Ali literally have to bang his machan floor to make him go away to a respectfull distance.
but its really a great feeling to see them still hanging around midst of all the skyscrapers and all :-) :-)

Thanks for the notes guys .
Ali mate I owe this one and for that matter every carp I have caught so far to you as I learned every thing about powai/carp fishing from you. I hope to catch a big one when you are around [smilie=coolup.gif] [smilie=coolup.gif]
eljefe bro that kind kind of distance is really not healthy I would say when the crocs are concerned

Hi Rajat,

That's a nice looking carp you have there. Hoping to catch one myself this weekend.

I love the picture of the croc in the lake and the concrete jungle in the background. Great pic!

Regards,

Mighty Marlin.
