Hi to all anglers in the forum,
I have been a part of the forum since 23 Jun 2007 however didn’t find any time to post and introduction. Well take this as an introduction and trip report to Konkan (Revisited).

It all started by spoonangler messaging us that he was landing threadfins around the Konkan region. It was driving us crazy (Balamama, Santosh & Tathagata). So we packed up and got ready to leave on 30th May 2008 at 9:30 pm. During the 8 hr journey we were discussing the tide and possible hotspots we need to hit and hit hard. We reached at 5:30 am Saturday and as usual spoonangler was waiting for us at the jetty. Immediately Santosh went searching for the boat man, and finally we were trolling for some game.

As soon as Santosh let the lure go and was about to close the bail arm he got a hit (GT), while Tathagata was looking at Santosh landing the GT he got a hit too. Then the most unwanted thing happened, while removing the hook from Tathagata’s GT Santosh got hooked himself in the middle finger. Since spoonangler wasn’t angling that day he tried to cut the barb off but in vain. Balamama and I were landing a MJ and GT respectively during this chaos. After Balamama landed his fish he went straight to Santosh took his pliers clipped off the barb and put a band aid in a matter of seconds and told tathagata “Kia karta hai machi pakadne ko aya ya insan”. Then Santosh jumped up saying “Mard ko dard nehi hota” and we all laughed out and got into action. Seeing GT Spoonangler took a popper and started to pop around the structures, And as we thought the game is over as there were no strikes for 20mins, it then hit me my reel started to scream as I was bringing in the fish it again gave a run, every time I would gain some line it would go for a run eventually I got it close to the boat, we could see the size of the MJ (around 5 -6 KG) but what a fierce fight. Spoon angler quickly took out the gaft and yanked the fish to the boat. It was 9:30 am by this time our total count for the day was 12 fish Tathagata lost 3 big one for which I bet he will not forget. The game was good since we all were getting strikes together with brief period of silence all we could hear was the sea splashing on the rocks and chug… chug…. chug of the motor.

We called it the day since Spoonangler and his family had to leave. So spoonangler left with the camera and we continued without anyone to record our catch and an extra spinning rod.

In the Evening we went to the rocks and we landed 6 more MJ’s and secret fish which santosh caught and released, Tathagata didn’t get a strike and he was depressed because the spot he learned Lure fishing has been destroyed as they are constructing a jetty over there. All he did was stand on the boat and curse at the workers every time the boat crossed the place.
We all had a long day without sleep or food so we decided to rest. We woke up at 5:30 am Sunday and tried to get in touch with the boatman, as usual this bugger had given us the slip as he had already left last night to catch some prawns . Balamama didn’t give up hope and suggested to cast from the rocks, before we could setup our gear he has landed 3 decent MJ’s. We tried and gave up since we were not getting any strike. We then decided to go to a another place which is known for MJ’s. Santosh and me landed 2 MJ’s each Tathagata was sitting on the rocks and sipping on his favourite drink since we were short of a rod. He seemed to be contended with the GT he caught.

Hi Tats,

Some good fishing and nice pics. After Maldives we went to Manipal for my younger sons admissions. We made a quick trip to Om beach and had a day there checking out the waters . Ended up landing half a dozen Mjs and a couple of baby Gts.
