Report written by Mr. Arun (The star performer of Korlai Fort trip :D )

Hello, Fellow Anglers,

I was after Santosh to plan an outing to Agardanda, a place about 160 Km from Mumbai. Some how it was being postponed for some reason or other for a long time. Finally, we happened to meet on Saturday, 8th at late night and decided to hit Agardanda next morning. Yaj, Ali and Bablu Bhai decided to join at the last moment.

The high tide was at 12.30 p.m. so we wanted to reach the site atleast 3 hrs. before full tide. Around 10.30 a.m we were crossing the Revdanda- Salav Bridge, where River Kundalika estuary joins the Arabian Sea. I casually mentioned, pointing towards our right to a projection jutting out to sea, that an old Portuguese Fort known as Korlai Fort seems a good site for Barras. The immediate response came from Santosh that we should try few casts there and then proceed to Agardanda.

Thus, we took a diversion from our original fixed route and arrived at the Fort. There is a newly constructed Light House and we descended towards the rocks. Four of us started spinning while Mr. Bablu chose to do bait casting. Bablu had a strike twice, but lost the fish both times. There was no feeding signs and after about an hour Santosh lost his favorite lure in rocks & declared that the place is without fish and that we should head for Agardanda.

I started packing, when suddenly I heard Santosh shouting that he hooked one. Soon he landed a Mangrove Jack of around 3.00 Kg. With this moral booster, we decided to stick fast where we were. We all changed our lure to Firetiger (as Santosh hooked one on it)

Soon, Mr. Ali had a hit and he landed a Jack of 1.5 - 2 Kg. and within minutes Santosh got one more Jack but while pulling him out from the rocks, the hook slipped. About 30 mins later Ali got one more hit, he saw a Barra hooked, but the Barra managed to throw the hook and got away.

After Lunch and little rest on the Rocks we resumed our activity. Soon I got a hit on my Fire Tiger and after a brief fight with the Drag tight, I landed a decent (about 3 kg)Mangrove Jack. After about half an hour, i had another hit at same spot and this time it was another MJ but smaller than my first one. After another 30 min, I had yet another hit, again a MJ!

by this time it was dusk, and since we didn’t carry any torch, We called it a day. Unfortunately, when we posed for a snap against a beautiful backdrop, to our disappointment, the only Camera we had could not take a pic. as its battery had discharged!

Therefore, We took the snaps after reaching home.

Wish you all a very Fishfull Angling Season,

Regards,

Arun

Yes every one, it was sort of baptism for me as an salti and landing one good fish on my first attempt was not a bad beginning. ( Never mind Dr. Yej attributing my success as beginner’s luck   ). Although I got three strikes and to watch a Barra attacking my lure was an outstanding and amazing experience, I managed to land only one. It was also very mesmerizing to observe three Dolphins playing on the horizon. Mr. Mohile was very kind to offer many tips and his spot from where he was catching regularly, to me. Thank you Mr. Mohile [smilie=huggles.gif] . This light house is really an amazing fishing spot and I hope in near future we can organize sort of salt water fishing meet over there. What say you guys. Lets hit the water while the fishes are biting.

Regards,

Ali..

:D Hi Santosh,

I would like to come on this and will try my best to make it :D . Just in case i don't make it my apologies in advance. :(

Please tell me if all the guys are going together or we come on our own to the spot.

If we are going together from where do we start ? In case we are going separately and meeting at the spot where is the location and if you have any landmarks please tell us.

I will arrive in Mumbai, India on 18 Dec 07, getting married on 27 Dec 07 at Goa, on 28 will be at in laws place for the ceremonial lunch and ready to hit the road on 29 & 30, unless the folks or wife stop me.

Please tell me your numbers so i can call you and get in touch. My indian mobile number is : +91 9867226693 i will activate this number on 18 Dec 07, that's when i touch down.

This trip is important to me because i will be observing and learning the styles, type of location, type of bait, how to cast lures and the rest..I have not used lures successfuly only used bait for bottom fishing  .

Believe me i'm so crazy i'd even jump in the water to grab the fish but that's not angling :D That's fangling

I'm looking forward to meet you guys 8) and get loads of tips it will help me develop my plans for further fishing in goa for the full duration of my trip. Every day fishing. Fishing, fishing, fishing, fishing :-)

Here's my very own country song for fishing written right now:

I'm dreaming fishing,
when i wake up it's lovely feeling,
Because i'm going fishing,

Everday i wanna go fishing,
Life is all about the fishes and the sea.

Chorus:
This i'm day dreaming,
i can hear the fishes calling out to me,
Come on over,
We wanna nibble your bait !
Let's see if you can catch us,
maybe you'll get lucky if it's your day

Fishing at dawn, the first light of sunrise, ringing in the fishes,
Fishing in the morning with some coffee, while the fishes nibble at my bait
In the evening with beer gone to my head,
fishes already know to nibble, they go free and laugh on me,
Now i'm way in to the night, fishing when the moonlights down on me.

All i wanna do is tease them fishes,
hook a fish here, and let a fish go lose there,
Make them fishes crazy, and
get a little wild myself.

Fishing is something that's a feeling,
it feels like racing a sports car,
it's even like shooting a soccer goal,
so tell me when will you try it out mate ?

I'll be fishing,
so why don't you join me
and we'll be fishing all day.

Looking forward to that super trip  :D Let's do it ! :D :D :D

Thanks, Sualeh for your compliments on my Report.

Are you angling only for freshwater or are you also a salty?

How is saltwater fishing around Pakistan? Should be good, unless there are polluting industries near sea shore.

Regards,

Arun
