Let me begin by saying- What a day!!! The weather was great, the fishing unbelievable and unlike ever before @ the pumps!

We started late and the bites started late… after much planning, bribing and last minute hitches, MKen and I managed to leave for the pumps around 10:30 in the morning… merely 6 hours behind schedule!!! But we figured no harm done… we had not hit the waters in a while and the itch was becoming unbearable!!!

We arrived to calm and docile (read dead) looking waters… it seemed pointless initially… we thought nothings gonna bite… maybe if Mken was lucky he would get a turtle (one did stick his head out close to Mkens float, waved out to him, and dove out sight really fast)!!!

Anyway, the first bite was had about 30 mins after putting the lines in… Mkens’ float started to do the tango, and then the reel began to screech… unfortunately the fish threw the hook…. All through this excitement, I was doing a good job of ignoring my lines and jumping around him… ignoring the little tap dance on my float… I don’t know what made me notice it and strike, but I did, and after a nice fight, I got myself a nice 3 lbs. common carp… That was the beginning of the day… no stopping after that… from noon till five in the evening, we got 14 fish, lost 3 for the lack of a landing net and missed countless other bites!!! Man what a day!

The catch was as follows:

12- Common Carp
2 - Singhi (Heteropneustes fossilis)

Avg. weight 2.5 lbs...

Here are a few pics from the trip…

Was great day. The number of bites was amazing. And the special atta worked wonders.

Hey Owen!

This is a pond where fish are grown for the market. Either we take them home or somebody else does. No one is allowed to put them back. Unfortunately the pond is going to be netted very soon by the real meat collectors. Maybe then you'll be taking some home then. :D :D :D

the bait was was atta, which was mixed with milkmain and kneaded with tons of excitement by a 4 year old! :D I guess the excitement worked better than the milkmaid!!!   we also tried atta mixed with ghee and atta mixed with commercial grade fish meal, but the milkmaid version got maximum hits...

the mat did not really stink cause the fish were kept alive till the time the pic was taken... minimal smell...

Owen!! Jedi master of the rod. a million apologies if I sounded a bit rude but call me any thing but a meat collector, hate their kind.

Incidentally, the lady who helps at home is from Bangladesh and is a phenomenal cook. She makes a wonderful mustard based maach jhol and baath with carp. Takes home all the fish too but after she had made me some.

Fred,

Thanks for warning Gavin. Was just about to light the incense and take out the voodoo toitle. Didn't really want to hurt him.

Tat's,

It's just milkmaid kneaded in with atta. Just keep adding the stuff till the consistency is right. and then a few drops of vanilla essence. Simple though Doc has a better version.
