A copy of Ranjit Daniels book dropped through my letter-box this morning.

Many many thanks to Sudhir, eljefe and Owen who collaborated in getting it to me.

So sorry to have missed Owen at ST Marks hotel. Next time Owen, and I'm buying the beer!

Thanks again - I'm now going to have a session matching up my photos with the book.

Bobby,
The books comes with coloured templates, not actual pictures of the fish, nevertheless its a good book.

It is available at Gangarams and Premier Book store, M.G. Rd Bangalore.

Cheers,
Alexis

Yes mate, but they are rather small pictures, but many species are covered.

Jude dude!
You may get the odd one at Gangarams, but the majority are available at Dehradun from Natraj Publishers and a couple of others.

Guys,

I have a copy of the book. For those of you in Bangalore I could lend it to you if you promise to look after it and return it to me.

I could leave it at the WASI office as they have a small collection of the classics and the system of keeping a track of the books lent out.

Having tried to match up several species of Indian fish with my copy of Ranjit Daniels, I still think it's time for a proper study!
Even with one of the most respected fish biologists helping, we couldn't match up some of the fish and we discovered a few inaccuracies, which wouldn't get past a European audience.

It is, however, probably the best book currently available.

Freshwater Fishes of Peninsular India,
R J Ranjit Daniels
Universities Press
ISBN 81 7371 409 6

Bought mine in the big book shop in Spencer Plaza in Chennai about three years ago for Rs 290.00
