Dear Anglers,

Those of you who are not members of WASI I give below the details of WASI membership:-

Some one Please clarify these :P :P :P

1) Is it a Lifetime membership?

2) What are the advantages of becoming a WASI member?

3) Where all can we do sport fishing after being a member without shelling out anything.

4) Do they have any angling equipments that can be issued to guests accompanying the members.

Had chkd the site http://www.wasiindia.com/ site, does not have any of these info

Yes, for an individual, it is 10,000, for life membership. You get to fish on the cauvery at shivasamudram. There is a fee for fishing daily and using the wasi hut. No wasi has no angling equipment for its members. You could still use the various other places of wasi protected areas with an older member.

Bobbee you forgot to mention that new members are also allowed to fish upstream of Bhimeshwari all the way upto headworks. This include doddamakli. That's a long stretch of the river.

Upstream of Bhimeshwari cannot possibly include all those spots you mentioned, since those are all downstream

If we need to fish fish upstream of Bhimeshwari all the way upto headworks ,from where do we need to acquire the daily permits (for members)
& which all places are under the control of WASI where we can fish &Is there any places where u don't need any daily permits to fish(catch & release of course)

Members of what ?
If you are not a Wasi member, you have to go with one to be able to camp anywhere in the area that you have indicated.

Wasi does not control any part of the Kaveri, except the lakes at Shivasamundram. Old members have rights to camp and fish after taking a permit from the WASI office at Bangalore. (Ultimately WASI gets members this permit from Jungle Lodges). There is nowhere on this stretch that you can fish without a permit, and not get your butt in a sling.
Try Sri rangapatnam area of the Kaveri, the fish are few and far between because of poaching. Fish down river from the bridge. There is a KSTDC hotel called Mayur over there. You can stay there and fish below the hotel.
I have had some carp and murral there in times gone by.
If you don't catch anything, atleast you will have been in a nice area and console yourself that some of the biggest mahseer were caught in this area in times gone by.

Owen, I suggest you have a word with the WASI office. I have confirmed that new members can fish anywhere on the cauvery upstream of bhimeshwari all the way upto the lakes. The permit for this is available from the WASI office. This includes Doddamakli.

The WASI membership form asks whether one is a permanent resident of bangalore. Is this a prequisite for membership?
I am a resident of bombay and a regular visitor to bangalore. Do i qualify for membership ?

As soon as the penny drops mate
Just joking, come on over Sundays and we can chat.
Practical sessions are a bit more difficult, no time to fish these days you see.

There are lots of tourists going to Shivasamundram, so i don't see why not. Just don't carry any fishing tackle.

The best way to go by bike or car is Bangalore -Maddur take a left turn to Mallavali where you will meet the Kanakapura road that leads to Shivasamundram (Bluff) around 30Km from mallavali.

Take the left turn at the Archway leading to the bluff. On the road before the bluff area (gates), you will see a sluice gate (forbes sagar)with a canal running under the road, and there is a left turn here with a road running parallel to the canal.

About a KM down this road you will see the wasi cottage on the other side of the canal, standing on a small hillock (It is not more than 50 meters from the road). Here you will find a small lake.

This is the small wasi lake. Hang around and you will see plenty of fish activity early morning and from 4 pm evening.
You can take a gander at Forbes sagar from the head works (ask around for directions).

Don't forget to take a look at the bluff, it is usually an awesome sight when there is water available.

There are busses running to Kollegal from Bangalore bus station that stop at the bluff.

Regards
Owen

Halkeye,

That post was [Posted: Fri Apr 13, 2007 1:34 pm Post subject:]

You joined in July 2006

To answer you question..... almost a year later.....

Your place of residence does not have any real bearing on your application for membership. WASI has members from various states. No worries on that front.

Regards,

Mighty Marlin.
