Saw this on another forum and thought would run this here.. According to the places you all have fished, which all waters would you rate as your top 3 and why...
For me, they would be:
1. Fort William, Kolkata -
A very exclusive club with around 50 odd members. They have two lakes stocked with rohu upto 15-18kgs, catlas upto 30kgs, mrigals upto 12kgs and calabouse upto 10kgs.. Not to mention the different types of other fish like snakeheads, tilapias, niloticas and common carp.. The reason I rated this as the best place I have fished is because of the tranquility of the lakes though it is situated in the heart of the city.. Covered on all sides by trees and u can hear the different song birds in the trees through out the day..
Club rules are such that number of fish to be taken for the pot are 2 only and that too within a certain weight limit.. A fantastic place to fish and I hope that my fellow members could have a chance one day to fish here..
2. The Pump House and the Canal system (somewhere in Haryana)
As many times I have been here with my fellow piscatores, I still dont know where we were until we reached the Pump House
.. My only landmarks were the Egg toast shop and the horseman statue that was always covered with a tarpaulin..
The PH was always covered in mystery for me because u never knew what was under the surface.. From great carp to huge murrel and then to monstrous turtles, you just never knew what would hit your bait..
Added to the PH, was the canal system that led to a certain area.. Due to my oath and ritualistic ceremony held there, I cannot reveal the exact spot but for all you murrel seekers, let me tell you that I have hit a 3kg murrel that took my froggie that was dangling in the water just 2 feet from my toes..
And there have been occasions where on 8 casts, I have got 13 bites (Yes, you read correct - 8 casts, 13 bites
Being a Bong angler and being brought up on a steady diet of catching carp like catla and rohu, the Pump House and the canals made me a hardcore Murrel Man and till date that place holds a very special place for me and I hope to go back there some day and hit the monster that got away (I think Ken would remember this)
3. Ludlow Jute Mills (Outskirts of Kolkata)
This is a small lake in an old jute mill.. The lake is crescent shaped and you have only 3-4 spots from where you can fish from.. To tell you a little about this lake and its inhabitants, the first time when i fished there with a fellow IA member, I was talking to some of the workers regarding the size of the fish here.. One of the workers told me that "Sir, all the big fish have gone away.. When the lake was covered with water hyacinths, all the big fish escaped through the water-gates connecting the lake to the canals leading to the river. Now since the gates are closed, only small fish remain." My question to him on how small were the fish currently got an answer that floored me, " Sir, rohu here now is about 15kgs, catlas about 25kgs, mrigals about 12kgs and bhetki about 8-10kgs" said the worker nonchalantly
The day we fished here, it was raining since 3 in the morning till the time we left at 5 in the evening.. We caught about 3 big rohus, the smallest being 6kgs.. A friend of mine lost a mrigal after bringing right upto his landing net.. In my conservative estimation, that fish was nothing less than 10kgs.
I still wait for the day that I can fish here again...
So these were my top 3.. Am sure you guys would have a lot more different places and we would love to hear about them as well and your experiences.. So, looking forward to hearing you guys..
