Posting Bobbee's mail to me here, just in case anyone is interested.
Anyone seen this lake ? I have vague memories of it being really tiny ???
Regards
Owen

I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED DR.VASNTH KUMAR, DIR. HORT., LALBAGH, AND HE
TELLS ME THAT THEY ARE LOOKING AFTER THE TANK THEMSELVES. HE WANTED
TO START ANGLING AT THE LAL BAGH TANK. HOW MANY OF US ARE
INTERESTED.

MY IDEA IS.......... ...WE COULD WORK OUT CERTAIN RATES WITH THEM
LEAVING 30% OF THE FEES FOR WASI AND THE REST TO THEM, OR 50% TO
WASI, SO THAT WE MAINTAIN THE TANK AND KEEP IT CLEAR OF WEEDS ETC.
POLICING WILL HAVE TO BE DONE BY THE LALBAGH AUTHORITIES. FISHING
WILL BE RESTRICTED TO MEMBERS OF WASI AND THEIR GUESTS. OR PAY THEM
A ROYALTY PER YEAR, AND INTRODUCING FINGERLINGS OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

DR. VASANTH KUMAR IS OUT OF TOWN TILL THE 28TH, BUT IF WE WANT TO
MAKE AN INSPECTION OF THE TANK WE COULD CONTACT DR. JAGDISH, WHOSE
CONTACT NUMBERS I HAVE GOT.

PLEASE DO CONTACT ME ON JTELEPHONE 9880311086/41238993 .

SPECIALLY TO RUSTOM, SANDEEP, OWEN, NAKUL, PRATAP AND THEIR SIBLINGS.

REGARDS. BOBBEE.

Bobbee, i'm pretty sure that the horticulture department will not allow any private organisation to take up the lake. It will have to be an association that has had some experience in conservation. Our best bet right now is WASI.

sounds like a good idea. Some of the fish there are HUGE but they feed readily given that numerous jains come by every morning and chuck bread in for them.

I think catch and release would be essential as otherwise the lake would be fished out in record time.

best

If so, how do I get there?

No Steve, we have a wasi yahoo groups through which we mail every one.
Bobee is loud as he has a hearing problem, and then his eyesight is not what it used to be. He makes sure people can see his posts so it's all in the upper case. By and large a lovely guy, but God keep his grandchildren away when i am fishing.

ryan i think that catch and fish is a good idea, but as u have earlier mention that the fish are aplenty we could limit the number of take aways to a size below 3 kgs and above 7 kgs. as these are the best breeders. moreover have them replenished regularly. what the doc told me is that there is problem of over population. regards bobbee.

Still I think we need to encourged the catch n release culture..or at least keep an over/under bag limit..

The managaing committee of WASI feels that we will be hurting the sentiments of the Jains who come and feed the fish on their morning walks, as such have knocked down the idea of the involement of the assoc., with angling at Lalbagh Lake.

I think I will now apporoach the authorities of starting and angling club at the Lalbagh lake and see what happens. Ryan was explaing to me that we should try and educate the people on over population and why there are fish kills in the lakes. Moreover, try and fish and take away catfish, black karnataka carp talepia etc, and release the other fish back. Shall put this on to the authorities. Dr. Vasanth kumar, does not want netting to take place, as such, the the idea of an angling club.

The dates for the WASI gtg have been changed to 16th of feb, 07, as the venue is not available on the other dates. I trust this has the members concurence. The venue is KSCA, time 8 pm and the subscription will will either rs.300 or 350.

Please do let Jayshree or me know. thanks.

I should land in Mumbai early on 2nd (depending on BA, who have cabin crew on strike!).
Fishing malvalli over the weekend of 9th to 12th, then heading oer to BNG via Mysore. Hope to get to BNG around 14th or 15th, join WASI, then go down to the lakes for two days, maybe 15th & 16th.
I'll then be touring TN for two weeks, going back to malvalli for 5 weeks, then be in BNG around 9th or 10th April for a few days.

Hope to set up a conference, probably evening of 12th April, with myself in the chair and Dr Mark Everard as guest speaker/answering questions on managing a wetland environment.

Hope to have someone from WASI there as well, so the future of the lake could come up for discussion.

That is when myself, Jim Smith and Dicky Fisk were hoping to go.
Could be a proper party [smilie=chongin.gif] [smilie=smack.gif] [smilie=damn.gif]

Me and Jim will bring some Directors and Coke, Dicky will be on cloud nine, I expect

Yep, on the subject the gtg is not at the lakes, but in town, on the 16th friday evening. The wasi cottage is booked, tentatively by a member, on the 17th and 18th, and will be available only from the 19th onwards. Yes the cottage is available prior to, the 16th, as every one {hopefully} will be at the gtg. I you require it on the following weekend or the week days do let me know, and, i shall book the cottage accordingly. You require at least three days at wasi cottage. ta.

Went fishing there on thursday evening, sorry sundeep, as Dr. aswath, requested me to come, went there and caught 6 telapia, in a matter of 30 mins., a black carp and a golden one, released the golden carp, weighing arount a kilo. The rest must have weighed around 2.5 kgs, which i took for the table. I was told that one had eggs, which my grand son relished.

On the subject of the angling club gave a brief to Dr., telling him that the lalbagh, could start an angling club. The charges could be about Rs.1000/ for membership and charges around 100 or 150 for a day`s fishing. Guests could be charged double and children below 15 could be Rs. 50/.

Also spoke of student members.

He requested for another meeting with him, do let me know if three or four of us can meet him. Any takers.

Hi Bobby,

Fishing in Lal Bagh sounds brilliant! I know that lake has some big fish for sure. Wish I was back home to do some 'gentle fishing'

Hi MM,
Better join the club as soon as it starts up.
I think we have to put an end to the netting by contractors that has been taking place every year. Also from what i hear, a lot of cleaning up of plastics and weeds is going to be necessary. I don't relly know whether there are any big fish in there if netting has been allowed, but it is worth starting up the first angling club in Karnataka in our own backyard.
Bobbee is out there testing the waters today. Would have joined him, but i am confined by these chains!
Regards
Owen

Guys the lake has a lot of potential. I had a nice healthy common carp on bread paste today. Smal chap about half a kilo but lovely looking fish!

Bobbee and I caught three common carp and a couple of Tilapia. The director at lalbagh says that the place hasn't been netted for eleven years. So it should have some sizeable fish in it.

There is an island in the middle of the lake which has a path up to it. It seems like a good site for some fishing pegs and it's far from the crowds.

Bops
