Now while I am no expert on the lunar calendar and not do I look at the moon before fishing, however, I believe that the fish tend to bite more on a full moon phase than on other times.. Why and how ?? I really didn't go into those details.. But yes, as far as i know, the phases of the moon do affect the fishing.

There is a relationship between light and fish feeding as it is evident in the concept of Chinese fishing nets of Kerala. During the Full Moon phase the light intensity increases, which triggers algal blooms & plankton activity. This brings a lot of bait fish to the surface to feed on the algae & plankton. The larger game fish come up to feed on the bait fish. This increase the Fishing prospects during the Full Moon Phase.
