He would probably have half of each of his 'Bongs' gaffed.

What big day were you referring to Bobby ?

When the 2 halves meet or when the 2 halves are seperated (by a gaff) ?

I have been bitten with the Ravas bug real bad recently. I decided to go to a spot in Hong Kong near the Airport where there have been reports of Ravas. This is a channel between the Airport and the Mainland after the Ching Ma Bridge.

The channel is pretty straight, there do not seem to be any “ambush” points for predatory fish to hang out except for a few pillars that hold up the bridges, however people always seem to be fishing from these pillar platforms, taking them out of the equation.

Under the bridge:

I did manage to find one place, this is where water washes out at force into the channel, because of this force there are a lot of bubbles and we have white water stretching out for about 50 feet of so, I thought this looked like a likely site where fish would hide in this white water. And I was correct, there was feeding mayhem in there.

The wash:

I was there with my son last week and there were Sea Bass feeding in that wash but we could not induce a strike. Mostly because we could not get goods casts in, as a couple of persons with floats were casting right across us. So we packed up and moved out early. As soon as the sun cools off towards the evening large shoals of bait fish rise and when they reach this white water they get cut down. There are tons of them check out this picture of one we foul hooked:

So we armed ourselves with some new lures and a last minute addition to the fishing party, my daughter Danielle, who has really taken up to fishing and perhaps the new champ in the family. Armed her with a red white Alie Magnet, helped here over the wall to a good spot and told here to do her thing. The fish were feeding like crazy in the wash, however we could induce a strike until it started to get dark. Danielle was the only one to land two Barracudas, I managed to induce 4 strikes but could not connect, I put that down to small hooks on my lures.

Here’s the champ in action:

Fish No 2.

Well she was smiling all the way home in the taxi, my son could not get over the fact that she caught 2 fish and he could not even induce a strike and was trying to sell here some crap about a “Magnetic” lure she was fishing with. (Alie Magnet) and then she reminded him that he switched to exactly the same lure after she landed her first fish.

To drive her point home, she looked at me with and said “well dad, don’t you think I deserve my own 2 piece rod now?”…….. who am I to disagree.

Wow! Congrats Danielle! Way to go girl. That is brilliant. Make them guys eat crow for a few days. Offer tips and get them to pay for some classes.

Bobby! You have some serious competition mate. Practice dude practice.

Thanks guys,

Yes MK serious competition, infact the last time as well she landed a nice MJ.

Bops I will ask her if she wants an ID but she is only 12 and a bit shy.

She has a telescopic Rod already, besides, I my self have over 100 rods. The reel she is using is her own, but a nice 2 piece is what she will be getting the next time I visit the tackle shop.

Looks like I will be taking them next Friday again, this time the other Daughter will come too. Though she is not as keen as Danielle and Dillon.

Bobby

HI Bobby,

You really seem to have taught your daughter well.
I think daughters look up to their fathers & always want to fit in.

My little one is getting trained with the fish species here in the UAE. It started off with people giving her fishy toys (from people who dont know me, so it wasnt planned). Anyway, the UAE ministry of Environment gave me a nice chart which I put up near the little one's bed. No, I havent forced her to learn, but she sure is picking up on her own.

see attached pic

Keyur

If there is one thing I have learnt about how to further build a childs interest in fishing, is, when you are fishing with them, leave and go home well before they get fedup no matter how much you want to stay or how much they plead they want to have a few more casts. The moment they get fedup and want to leave, kills the interest. You need to keep them hungry till mature enough in fishing terms.

My son is now all set, I need nuture the girls interest still.

A few sundays ago, gavin, Alya, Poonam and I went to Tilyar lake. We had heard a lot about the place and how everyone was catching fish. So we set off before the place was cleaned out of fish.

We set off at 6 and the drive was a continuous ' Are we there yet?" fortunately this time it was from Gavin and Poonam so we could tell them to put a sock in it.

On reaching there we ground baited the place. Which was completely unnecessary as the fish are every where. Fast forward to all our rods in the water. bets were placed on who would catch the first fish, the biggest fish and the most fish.

Here are the results.

First Fish - Hooked by Gavin, reeled in by Alya.

Biggest fish - Alya. It was a few grams more than the other

Most fish caught - Alya, 5 carp, 1 eel and a Turtle. (yes, it does run in the family)

Bobby Simone is 12 and Sasha is 10 and its really great to have emm fishing with me.We did a bit of trolling in the backwaters of kerala but not a single strike. Then on our way back we stopped over at Goa and went fishing to Aguada where Sasha hooked a MJ but couldnt hold on and lost it but the noise and excitement more then compensated for the lost fish.I had a massive strike there but again couldnt connect. The next season is gonna be hectic my girls are already fighting over the rapalas and sorcers he he.........one more reason to buy more ha ha.
