That’s a real King size fish.

I can just imagine the feeling of hooking one of these huge ones on the other end.

Hi all, nice to know that everyone is excited.

We used a Laser Pro 160gms fluro green halco lure.

surprisingly, it was easy to reel in until 5 meters only then we knew it was huge. Then twice it took off and we almost lost it. But luckily managed to land it within 8 minutes. Lucky us. The hooks were 160 degrees.

lifting was difficult then reeling in that King.

Hello Robert,

What a lovely catch ... how do you cook mackerel at your end of the world?

Thanks for telling us about the Halco lure, they are good fish catchers.

However, what was your rod/reel/line combination? did you use a wire
leader?

Kingfish

.

ROB,

I have noticed a strange behavior in this fish. They only take strides and then their final run is to the shore that allows then to gather slack. Not too sure the reason behind this one.

Not too sure what hooks you were using cause never had any hooks bent by kingfish unless they are snagged. I used carbonized hooks they would break but not bend. "TUTNAAR pun waknaar nahi" Thats in Marathi :)

DeZZ,

I am not sure the size and make of hook but it is standard coming with Laser Pro 160gms Halco.

Reel was Okuma500LDII L/W Big Game Reel and 60LB Berkley mono filament.

Thanks

Hi Kingfish,

Mostly this size we cut across in slices of 1 cm and deep fry with hot spices or cut into cubes to make fish curry. each state here has ethnic recipes and of course all are yummies..

Rod was Pioneer boat rod.. Reel and Line already informed. Leader was single strand mayline steel wire.

Thanks for viewing

The leader should be Malin wire and not mayline. Sorry

Rob,

The hooks on the Halco are normally of a strong quality and I do not replace them when fishing in the tropics (other lures require expensive Owner ring and hook replacement -the factory fitted ones are not up to the mark). So
it reinforces the fact that you had a strong fish on!!

Thanks for the cooking tip - Aussies usually barbecue everything and same
was done to the spanish mackerel we caught, by the resort cook . It was
quite dry but reasonably tasty.

Regards,

Kingfish
