Jeremy Wade's DVD (set of 2) on fishing in India, covers mostly Mahaseer in the North.

Can I suggest that we form a 'chain' - I'll send it to Bops, who can see it and send it on to the next person who's interested.

Please accept the suggestion as I will be burning forever - as 3 requests for a copy have already come in

Thanks

Who's interested in viewing, pls post yr interest and the chain will start based on the order of the posts. is that ok :?:

Guys, a word of caution. Piracy is a serious offence, please ensure that there are no copywright issues . A pass around should be okay. Some posts regarding this may be missing, guess you will understand.

Andy, you have PM

Thanks Bops

Agree that there should be no piracy issues - if we do not receive permission to make a copy then we will pass around the original, which is for our personal viewing and as long as we dont rent it to each other (which we dont intend to), there is no copyright infringement or piracy issues

Incidentally, for Riaz - why did you sign off as 'Don'

You're quite right of course bops, I felt a bit uneasy about that last post as soon as i'd put it up.

I obtained legal copies of both programmes by writing direct to the copyright owners.

Anyone wishing to do the same can make contact through the following web sites :

http://www.castingforgold.com
http://www.jeremywade.co.uk

Bops,

The IA stickers never reached me at Panchkula ??? I will be at Marchula on March 21, late afternoon to evening. Any suggestions from Viraj as to where to cast for Mahseer, upstream of the Marchula bridge of downstream and much distance from the bridge ??

Regards,

AV,

The water's warming up and you couldn't have chosen a better time to land up on the Ramganga. The Marchula bridge section is useless- all pet fish in the 10-15inch range. Big ones not showing at all. Above the bridge saw dynamite on Holi and is yet to settle down.
Best bet would be to fish the area around the Ramganga resort, beginning suspension bridge downwards. The big pool below Balooly village is also good but beware of snags near the head. Also, send a 2" chrome or perch pattern Krocodile very carefully in the rapid above it. Small plugs also good.
Domunda beat is fantastic- lots of water up to Kalakhand rock. Was there a week ago but the water was cold because of rains and snowfall in the hills.

Wish I could join you but am off chasing trout up the Tons headwaters.

Cheers,
Vedan

Hi Vedan,

Long time no word from you?

Nice to get info of the north from you. If you are chasing trout, you must be fly fishing as all the anglers in UK and US seems to fly fish for the trouts. I have a flyfishing rod and a reel. Tried once and couldnt cast properly.

Cheers,
Apoo

Thanks for inputs Vedan. How do I reach the Ramganga Resort area from the main road. If I have to walk how long is the walk. I will be in a TATA INDIGO.
Regards.

Hey Ashok!

I go to the Ramganga Resort every often. There is a small u turn like thing to the left to go down to the resort. It is a kachcha road but very cool. i did it in a very laden Honda without any problems. The road ends at the resort. You can park at the suspension bridge and walk the rest of the way. The river to is quiet crossable, not more than a foot and a half but pretty wide, from just above the suspension bridge. Once on the other side there are better streches to fish from and fewer disturbances.

Please remember to get your pass from Marchula village near the Post office/bank.

Vedan is right about the pet fish. I never thought i would catch mahseer by floating down pieces of bread/bun/naan/roti but that's what the so called village guides will have you doing.

Thanks a lot to all for the inputs. Why do'nt we have a 2-3 day meet at the Ramganga Resorts for IA members in Oct 2007. I am told that the Mahseer fishing is much better at that time.

Hi Ashok

I dont have much experience at Marchula - was there last year 3 times and my friend caught a 10+ and my brother a 20+. The 10+ was in the pool downstream of the bridge and the 20+ ... I dont know as I was not there with my brother and he's right now down with typhoid.

Suggest that you try the pools below the bridge, very early if you can make it and after crossing the suspension bridge (just short of the Ramganga Resort) walk and spin downstream for a few kilometers - the walk is nice and the water is good.

Incidentally, despite what the local guides say, you can and should use jointed plugs - both the above were taken on jointed rapalas - use the J13 if you have it and any pike, perch, trout, black/silver will do.

My friend who's quite experienced at Marchula advises me that the fish are wary, esp in the pools below the bridge..so the idea is to strike like a stealth bomber!

Good luck - if am in teh neighborhood, might see you on the 21st

rgds

Viraj

Thanks to Saiki i was able to see the version of Jungle Hooks recorded from Discovery Networks Europe. I had seen the original DVD earlier that Bops passed around, and was surprised to see that the Discovery version had a bit more than the original DVD. Obviously they have edited out parts of it for the DVD

I was quite dissapointed with the JH video - I was present during the filming of the video for a couple of days. There is little knowledge imparted 'cause Wade and Co. were on their first or second visit. If they were to do a series on Cauvery, trust they will involve an experienced angler.

The video however, is a decent introduction or rather a teaser for Mahaseer up North.
