Waited too long to get this fish( my favourite fish) cos the condition of pench dam is much more difficult & adverse to get these beauties. Water level is always high and the bhandara canal portion which is the one of the main spot of these beauties is full of weeds deep inside. well i had several unsuccesful trips to this dam but i was hopeful of getting results soon and it happened due to sudden opening of the gates some 20 days back. conditions were perfect on july 28th with sun shinning bright. i used my homemade spoon and on the very first cast got this beauty of 2.25 Kgs.

yes guys they are just a cast away......hooked several of them in past few days but was not able to pull anyone cos they have chosen a right safe zone for themselves which is the exit route of canal through dam......my line is getting cut due to the rough surface below. i have lost 15 spoons in the span of 3 days....and i m sure the fish there is too big

cheers
Manish

If you are facing trouble with snags but can't afford to up your line size as it impacts your casting distance with light spoons, try putting a leader on of 18/20lb line (or higher if needed). A decent braid would be even better but if your not experienced in using it, stick to mono.

What is a leader? A length of line from your end tackle (spoon in this case) for 10 to 15ft connected to your main line.

To stop it from effecting your cast you want to do two things:
1) have it just long enough to have a couple of turns on your spool when you line up to cast. E.g. If you have a 10th road, and you let the lure hang 3/4th from the tip when you cast you probably want it about 11/12ft in length
2) ensure you use a good slim knot - see link

http://www.carp-uk.net/knots/Mahin-knot.jpg

Good luck mate.

update: Was back into action yesterday but was unsuccesful due to the sudden rise in water level at dam in last 3-4 days....seen some of the jump by small mahseer at the surface. i think i have to postpone action at this particular dam for 1 month.

Manish
