Prathap has asked me to inform you all that he caught a small mahseer at the cottage lake this past weekend.

Will upload the pic when I receive it.

P.S.: As of today, we have two more guards for the Shivasamudram stretch making a total of four.

Hi Rustam,

Is this something unexpected?

Very much so. The Shivasamudram stretch that WASI got was very heavily poached but with just two years (I think) of protection, the mahseer have started coming back.

Two groups of 5 and 7 poachers were kicked off last weekend.

The mahseer are still tiny in the lake Bobby. We should not be even thinking about catching them for the next 5 years. If i do catch one over there it will be by mistake, and Pratap's probably was.
The ones that we are seeing now are probably the fingerlings that were put in recently.
There are much bigger wily species in there that we guys are trying to get the hang of. Personally, i change styles totally when i visit the lakes to very light tackle and floats. Fishing very early in the morning, seems to be the best time for this type of fishing, because by 8 am the winds are howling around the lake, and don't cease till early the following morning.

Will try to adopt carp style fishing also in the coming days and try cracking the code.
Regards
Owen

By the way, the new team, including Prathap, nabbed some poachers this weekend. As a result we now have a second coracle at the WASI cottage lake.

Rusty,

Just to be a spoilsport: the first looks like a silver mahseer, but the second one looks like a rohu, judging from the mouth and pinkish fins.

If I'm right, then you owe me more masala tea, sigh.

You are right Aznir. Prathap had caught a rohu as well. Looked the same to me until you pointed out. Infact when the mahseer took the bait, Prathap remarked to the guard, "See...these rohus also put up a good fight...."

It will be some time before you can have your fill of masala tea but in the meantime I could send you masala tea bags. Not as good as the real thing but palatable. PM me your address.

The second could be a Rohu Rusty, the mouth is too small mouth to be a mahseer.
