This fish, deccan mahseer, was caught some time ago.
It was so black with a white marking on the tip of the dorsal fin.
I am yet to see a fish like this. Could be a mutatnt?

The head on that fish looks wrong for a mahseer. Could it be a Karnataka Labeo (Labeo nigrescens) ?

Looked up for this one Fred, could not find the picture I had of this species, apparently they are known to wear white undies and run skip about bushes.

If I am correct, in Assam we call it Boka. and in Teesta people call it Katli.

Which river is this?

Cheers,

Wayne,

That fish looks very much like a Chinese mahseer (Tor Sinensis). Notable features are that brassy dorsal, the dark line along the side, and relatively short head.

Some of my angling friends have been going to Northern Thailand to catch these fish on lure and fly. They live in similar waters as the Barrilius species (like Indian trout).
